Hi, I’m Amelia: a multidisciplinary artist based in Bainbridge Island, Washington.
Ever since I was a toddler I’ve always been drawing. I took sketchbooks with me everywhere, drew on napkins in restaurants, taught myself how to draw digitally on a Wacom Graphire tablet in the early 2000s, and took two dual credit courses in drawing at a nearby community college during my last year of high school. You can imagine why my response to people when they ask how I got so good at drawing is: “I’ve had 30+ years of practice.”
I work full-time at Grist, a nonprofit, independent media organization dedicated to reporting on climate change, justice, and solutions. I started as the assistant art director in 2014, back when it was okay for me to make absolutely ridiculous Photoshops with migraine-inducing colors. I’m currently the senior designer for the editorial team and created the art aesthetic of Grist’s most recent rebrand, and am always thinking of ways to improve our visual identity.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time on various creative projects such as personal illustrations, embroidery, sewing, and photography; cooking (and eating); and exploring the Pacific Northwest with my dog.
